|
|
QuickTime movie settings: 320x240, 10fps, stereo 44.1kHz audio
QuickTime Player Export settings: Export as MPEG-4, Video: MP4, H.264, 640kbps, Optimized for Streaming, current frame rate, key frame every frame, baseline, best quality, Audio: AAC-LC (Music), 128kbps, stereo, 44.1kHz, better.
even if you specify 640kbps in QuickTime Player Export, it may still produce a movie file with a bit rate more than 640kbps. so you need to make sure that the bit rate of the exported movie is within the video iPod specs (less than 768kbps).

a video iPod suports both H.264 and MPEG-4. but MPEG-4 can go higher bit rate (probably because iPod can decode MPEG-4 faster or something) according to the tech spec.
video iPod tech spec:- H.264 video: up to 768 Kbps, 320 x 240, 30 frames per sec., Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3 with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats
- MPEG-4 video: up to 2.5 mbps, 480 x 480, 30 frames per sec., Simple Profile with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats
and i need the highest possible resolution in order to preserve the stereo viewable image.
NOTE: if you use the iTunes' "Convert for iPod", i was told that iTunes skips the part where there is no sound track or it's silence. this is why some of the animated stereograms movies for iPod here have the pink noise at -24dB instead of no sound track. now i know it's unnecessary if i don't use the "Convert for iPod" in iTunes, and just use the .mp4 file within the iPod specs (very vague though) exported by QuickTime Player.

i think i tried several ways. first, i tried iTunes but it sometimes generated movies that can't even be played on iPod (bit rate was too high for iPod to process).
and i think i ended up using QuickTime Movie Player to save as MPEG-4 (H.264). i had to use the black & white (not even gray) version of the original stereogram movies in order to keep the quality and playable bit rate by iPod back then.
i'm sure the latest iPod can play better quality movies. but i don't have one to try.
oh, i just realized i did post how i created it already. i used "Export" (not save as). anyways, once you created MPEG-4 or H.264 movie which iPod can recognize, just drag & drop (or import, i forgot) to iTunes and sync with your iPod. that's all. |
